Departure Week!

Our dream trip to Europe starts this week!  Two more days of school followed by two final days to get everything ready for departure before we blast off.  Leaving home for two months takes a lot of pre-planning, but I think we have everything covered.

Newspapers canceled, bills all converted to paperless communication, yard chores outsourced.

We are thankful to have a good friend staying at our house to watch over things here.    We are certainly going to have a summer to remember, but I think each of us is a little sad to miss the beautiful weather here in the Northwest and our home on Vashon.

And of course no big trips this summer on the sailboat, though I hope we can squeeze a few sails and overnights on our boat when we return in August.   A small price to pay for the trip of a lifetime…

Have a wonderful time. What a fantastic educational opportunity for you kids. Really enjoy following your life on facebook. Thanks for sharing. Tell your boy that the trombone is a great instrument. My grandson Patrick, (Becky’s son) is studying music at Central Washington University. His instrument of choice is the bass trombone. They have a fantastic music program there.
Keep up the blogs, Love, Karleen

Enjoy! Sounds like a wonderful itinerary. When we were in Rome last year, we enjoyed the Spanish Steps, Piazza Venezia – allow lots of time to see this massive building and museum, as well as the expansive ruins behind it, leading to the Colosseum, which of course you should also try to see (but I think this requires a fair amount of planning to get tickets if you want to go inside, which we didn’t do). The National Museum is amazing, as is the Pantheon (go during a sunny day to see the beam of light through the roof). Trevi Fountain is beautiful both daytime and nighttime. Also, go hang out at Piazza Navona at night – lots of activity! By the way, best Linguini Vongole I’ve ever had was at Trattoria Tritone, not far from the Spanish Steps. Enjoy!

Thanks Jeff. Awesome tips! We are staying near the Spanish Steps so we should be able to see and do a lot of this. And we’ll definitely check out Trattoria Tritone!
